ED270- day9- 5/29/2015

Day 9:

Final projects here we come!!
Last class we talk about Dreamweaver and how to create a website on that app, but today Scott who is a tech specialist came in to show us and guide us on how to use Wordpress. Wordpress is a website that is free for everyone to create blogs and or websites. That is where I choose to create my website. Scott also talk about other websites that are for creating websites or to help us find free pictures to use. Bluehost.com Wordpress.org/showcase/ Morguefile.com and a few more, but I forgot what the names where.

For my final project, I want to create a website for students. I want them to be able to use it while we are in the unit. Or to have my website as a go to when I give then an assignment about that specific topic. I'm not quite sure what the topic will be about yet. I want to use what I did for the first lesson plan which was about the US states and capitals.

We only have one more class meeting before our final! Pretty exciting. And I hope I know enough to complete my FINAL PROJECT.

Till next time.

ED270- day8- 5/22/2015

Day 8:

Today was get to know how code kind of day. We went code.com where we had time to play a game to help us understand more about computer codes. I payed a game with Elsa and Anna, and the put of the game was to make Elsa or Anna move across the ice to create snowflakes. By moving them, I have to put codes together. For example, move.100pixels, move.right, or move.90degress.

We also got introduced to our last project which will be to design a website. We worked with Dream Weaver. Quickly, we went from step to step on how to add pages and images to our website.

And today, I am finishing my Podcast project. Which I decided to do Russian 101.

Day 7:

Today, one of our assignments is to create a lesson plan. We had to think of a grade level we will be "working" with, and a lesson that we'll be "teaching." I choose geography of the United States of America. I found an app that is called Geo Touch where the it will help the students with remembering the states. We needed to create a template of our lesson plans and turn them in.

Also, we got another assignment where we create an app. This assignment will help us as teachers understand what students will have to do. The website is ibuildapp.com. The app can be about anything.

And at the end of class, we got about a hour to work on our assignments :)

Week 6:

Class started out by first talking about the Eight Guidelines for classrooms and media literacy. After reading the article, we broke up into groups of two and each group had one guideline to come up with questions.  Socrative is a website for teachers and students where teachers can quiz their students online and see the results on the board. So, each group came up with questions and asked the class.

Our next project is a podcast. As a class, we spent some time on iTunes looking at different types of podcasting that out in the world. I found some that would be useful in classrooms, for example famous speeches from the past that can be used in a history course. Another classmate found videos of the plate tectonics and showing how they move, which would be a helpful video in a 5th grade class.

At the end of our class, we were introduced to our next project: making a 2 to 3 minute podcast. We will be using Garage Band to record ourselves. Right about now, I have no idea what I want to do. Some people might be reading books, give information about a certain topic, and or just talk.

Until next week my fellow friends!

ED270-day1- 04/03/2015

Day 1:

Today was get to the know the class day. I was introduced to a lot of different websites that would help me when I become a teacher. The two that we explored where BigHugeLabs and Go2Web20. These websites where kinda of like search engines.

BigHugeLabs: a place where you can incorporate fun ideas into our classroom straight from the website. Ex: name tags, geography, color pallets. I found Maps was fun because you could search for specifics like where do tigers live? Where are the mountains in the world? After exploring maps on the BigHugeLabs I wanted to see if there where other websites that might be more simpler for elementary students, and I did find a more simpler one... National Geographic has a awesome mapmaker where you can layer a map with different types of animals or other topics.

Go2Web20: is a website that leads you to other websites that you are looking for. It makes it easy to search for specifics. Ex: I am a teacher that is looking for a website for my 4th grade class to play math games and practice what we learned that week. I can narrow my search by clicking on the specifics that I need, like teachers and math. Then a list of websites that fit my search come up and I am free to explore.

Today we built our own blogs that we will be posting in every week.
